Posted January 12, 2012
Governor Heineman just finished presenting his annual State of the State Address in front of the Legislature. He stated that “Our highest priority should be tax relief for Nebraska’s hard-working, middle class taxpayers,” He then outlined a plan that would lower taxes and reduce the state’s budget by $29 million.
Governor Heineman discussed the difficulties the state is facing in regards to child welfare and said “The focus must be to provide a more efficient delivery of services that helps our children. I am working with the leadership of your Health and Human Services Committee to develop a common sense plan of action for the future.”
The Governor addressed the challenges of President Obama’s federal health care reform and the implementation of health care exchanges, expressing the need for states to know the future Supreme Court decision on constitutionality of the law before implementing. That ruling is expected in June. He has said in the past that the Legislature may very well meet in a special session this summer to address the findings of the Supreme Court.
